Tracking (Re)use of textbooks

Good morning everyone,

I’m presently exploring a range of data collection points to show impact of our open textbooks, especially as I’ll be looking for additional projects and funding in the near future. The issue of tracking (re)use of our texts is one I want to tackle before it’s asked, and I wondered how others have approached this? We have ‘partial pictures’ of this via indicators such as reviews in the Open Textbook Library, and word-of-mouth. My first thought was to include a link in the book description that prompts users to fill in a very short survey (‘Have you used this book? We’d like to know’), but again, this is self-reporting.

Has anyone experienced success in this area? I completely understand that I’ll need to combine a broad number of approaches.

Kind regards,
Adrian
