Next week we are planning to make important updates to the new Pressbooks Link Checker service. These updates will allow us to provide major future improvements to how link check reports are managed and displayed. They will also result in existing reports being temporarily unavailable until new reports that are compatible with database updates are automatically generated.
We are planning to begin the update process around 8:00 PM EST on Monday, April 27, 2026. Around this time, database updates will cause previously generated Link Checker reports to be temporarily unavailable. As part of our update process, we will automatically generate newly updated reports for all books that had previously performed link checker scans. These requests will be added to a queue and processed as quickly as the service allows.
We expect that most reports will be completed within a few hours of the deployment. Due to the size of the expected queue, however, it may take a day or more for some reports to be completed. We’ll monitor the process closely and will send another notification once all reports have been updated across all affected networks. Between Monday evening and the time that these pending scans complete, you may also notice that new link reports take longer than usual to appear, as there will temporarily be many more jobs in our service queue.
