Planned Deprecation Notice: “My Catalog” Feature

The Pressbooks “My Catalog” feature was originally introduced to provide a lightweight way for individual authors to curate and share collections of books across networks. Over time, however, the feature has seen diminishing usage, especially as many of its core functions have been replaced by improvements to our supported network catalog plugin.

Our team has determined that this legacy feature does not align well with our current product direction or the ways most users discover and organize content today. Because of this, we have decided to deprecate and remove the “My Catalog” feature from Pressbooks in a forthcoming release, currently expected to take place in the last quarter of 2026.

Removing this feature will allow us to simplify the platform experience and reduce ongoing maintenance overhead associated with supporting legacy functionality that is no longer actively developed. Individual authors who currently rely on “My Catalog” are encouraged to explore alternative approaches, such as sharing collections via their network catalogs, custom landing pages, or external tools designed for curation and discovery. If you are an enterprise client who continues to use the “My Catalog” feature for historical reasons, our customer experience and support team will contact you directly to discuss paths forward before functionality is removed.

How will this change the way in which the books are published?

Hi Lucy, can you say a bit more about what you mean by “the way in which the books are published”? The one feature that will change is the “My Catalog” page which will no longer be available. If that page is part of how you publish books, then your process will be affected, and we would be happy to discuss paths forward with you. If you are not using this page for your publication process, then it should not be affected by this change.

Is there a way to email all of our users to let them know that this feature is going away? I don’t know if any of our users are using it, but if they are we don’t want it to suddenly disappear without warning.

hi @agrey yes, you have a couple of options. We can check for you to see if you have any users using it and then you can contact those users directly, or you can download a list of all users from your network user list and send out a bulk email directly yourself. If I were running a network, I’d probably go the first route, but happy to support you whichever direction you think best. If you’d like us to check your network to see if users are in fact using this feature and how extensively, please send me a direct message or contact premium support.

Great! I’ll email support for the list.
