Password protection vs. Search in book

I just got a question from a PSU colleague about “Search in book” not working unless he was logged in. After a little digging, I found their chapters were all password protected. When I was logged in to PB, I could search fine. When I was logged out, search yielded “Nothing found”. When I removed the chapter’s password, the search worked on that chapter. Is this intended? Readers can’t search a PB if chapter’s have password protection.

Thank you.
Wade

Hi Wade – that’s correct. Password protected content cannot be searched by public (i.e. non logged in users). This is because password protection essentially makes the chapter private; the only difference being that this method will let a user read it without a Pressbooks account if they know the password.
