Method for updating theme

How do you update McLuhan theme without losing textbox custom colours (Appearance > Theme Options) ?

According to the Pressbooks-book readme there is a plugin to provide the WordPress updater functionality: Install the GitHub Updater plugin.

However with WP 4.9.8 and the latest PB & McLuhan installing this plugin displays the following error:

The plugin github-updater-8.2.1/github-updater.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

Alternative update method for non-composer users? Perhaps FTP upload zip and expand+overwrite existing folder…or upload zip, hide existing folder, and expand zip?

Is there a way to FTP theme file, then expand within WP?

This error message suggests that the GitHub Updater plugin is not in your plugins folder (or, more likely, its folder name is incorrect).

The folder name for the GitHub Updater plugin should be github-updater, not github-updater-8.2.1.

I reinstalled github-updater-8.2.1.zip and indeed the default folder was github-updater-8.2.1
FTP’d and renamed folder (albeit faster to rename zip before install). Thanks - now getting the message - GitHub Updater Information Please be patient while WP-Cron finishes making API calls…
