This is for university admins and people trying to establish a campus presence for Pressbooks. I’m interested in how folks have marketed pressbooks on their campus. What did you do that worked? What kind of impact did you have?
Great question, Jeanne! Not sure how many folks saw this, so let me tag @EDU_Managers for greater visibility and see if that gets responses. If not, we can ping specific people that I’m aware of having done interesting things.
There is a one pager you can distribute to faculty, and a slide deck that you can use during professional development or faculty showcases that show what kinds of things you can publish with Pressbooks.
You can also circulate the Pressbooks Directory to faculty to help drum up interest (there are over 8,000 titles there now that are free to use/adapt/modify).
I know a lot of our clients have done pretty interesting things so hopefully you’ll hear from some. If I think of anything else I’ll let you know!
Over the past several months, we’ve heard from several of you that one of the biggest challenges you face as a network manager is how to develop awareness and interest in using Pressbooks among instructors on your campus. We developed some resources in response to this need, and introduced them in last week’s product update meeting (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSRLzRUQ5bo&t=45s).
Here’s a short summary in case you missed that meeting: we’ve created a “Promotional Toolkit” designed to help you inform folks on your campus about how Pressbooks can help them with their teaching & learning and open publishing needs. The toolkit includes a one page handout describing what Pressbooks is and how it can be used by instructors; a slide deck which focuses on how Pressbooks can be used for several common types of digital publishing projects; and Pressbooks logos. The one pager and slide deck are customizable so you can brand them to your institution.
These materials can be found here: Pressbooks Promotional Materials . You can download individual resources directly from the page or provide your email address to have the whole package emailed to you.
We’re actively seeking feedback about how to improve or add to these materials to better help you accomplish your goals. If you have ideas or suggestions, let us know!
