Looking for Pressbooks multimedia examples

Hi all,

We’re working with faculty on developing an open access digital monograph based on the proceedings of a local conference, and expect it will contain a wide variety of media - images, photographs, audio, video, interactive features, etc.

In an effort to give contributors an idea of the spectrum of possibilities allowed by Pressbooks, we’re compiling some examples to show different features. Does anyone know of examples that illustrate either of the following (or similar)?

  • interview with artist, scholar, or someone else, interwoven with samples of their work (e.g., as photos, videos). Interview could be in text or video and would be accompanied by a brief biography of the interviewee, list of related resources (of similar work) for teaching, etc.
  • photo essay (e.g., related to exhibit at conference, contribution to digital archive or other project)

For anyone interested, here are other examples I’ve found so far to show a variety of features/possibilities:

Thank you for any help!

Jacob Lawrence in Seattle is a series of essays mixed with the artist’s work as well as maps of his journey, photos, and more. It might be similar to what you’re looking for (at least in format).

It looks like you’ve put together a great selection featuring some creative H5P content and other embedded elements. I’ll let you know if I think of something that’s not already covered here.

Thanks so much, Travis!

I put this question out to a few listservs as well, and here’s the response I received so far:

“One of our instructors created Humans R Social Media in Pressbooks with students’ first-person essays, audio clips, video clips, and graphics. They also have bios.”

That’s really interesting. I hadn’t looked closely at Humans R Social Media yet, but I see there’s a lot to dig into. Thanks for sharing!

Here is the e-book I wrote for my Trends in Digital and Social Media course: Trends in Digital & Social Media (V14) – Simple Book Publishing

It contains a combination of elements:

  • Embedded videos
  • Images that are linked to external multimedia
  • Links to social media accounts of key authors
  • Indicators of Required and optional readings/media

The chapter narrative format might be useful since it is designed to mesh with the verbiage in each module of the LMS. The course in the LMS and the e-book chapters are co-defined.

BTW, I don’t use H5P resources here, but I could. Since H5P has switched to a for-fee model, we have been limiting our use of it.

Thanks to @Travis for sharing Jacob Lawrence in Seattle! Another example from UW that might be a good fit for what you’re looking for are:

@weevie833, FYIW we use the open source version of H5P in Pressbooks. No additional fees involved to make and host activities in Pressbooks, now or in future.
