Learning Analytics and Caliper 1.1

Hi all,
Some of you know that we’ve been working to add H5P interactive elements to our instance of Pressbooks and to emit and store learning analytics statements generated by these activities in what’s called a Learning Record Store (using the xAPI specification). We also have some longer-term interest in instrumenting Pressbooks to emit statements using a sibling standard called Caliper Analytics. Version 1.1 of this specification was just published yesterday by IMS Global, a major higher education standards body, and can be found here: https://www.imsglobal.org/sites/default/files/caliper/v1p1/caliper-spec-v1p1/caliper-spec-v1p1.html.

I haven’t written up any clear prose descriptions about this work yet, but I’m working on something to share in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, Hugh and I presented about similar ideas last year at the Open Education Conference (our slides are here): https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1JoWwyQMpX8ge9Oxk3o3reECVfiJJ6SvB6zPzUbgDDt8/edit. Slides from a similar presentation I gave a few months ago here (the last half of the presentation might be of interest to the hard-core curious): https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1RAjaLRI4UIiNcDHa_spCwpELewdAHcbpwg3TZbZFAro/edit#slide=id.g2aef10b2ca_0_16
