Import of EPUB fails

Using Pressbooks Importing & Exporting Content

I downloaded as Google Doc as an EPUB, then hit “Import” in Pressbooks, chose that file, and clicked “Begin Import.” Nothing happened.

Importing this way has worked before. Any idea why it fails now, or how to fix? Thank you!

Downloading a Google Doc as an EPUB and then uploading it to Pressbooks should generally work. Without knowledge of the specific context (network, file, etc.) this is difficult to troubleshoot. In most cases you should at least see an error message, for instance if the file size exceeds the maximum allowed (25MB or smaller depending on the network settings). If you are on a self-hosted network, maybe you can reach out to the network’s administrator, or if you are on an Enterprise network to your network manager?

Many thanks for your reply! I should have followed up on finding a solution: the trouble was the size of the import file, owing to many images. Once I cut the images, the EPUB import worked fine, and I could later paste the images in–a pain, but at least it worked. (It would be nice if Pressbooks would signal that the EPUB file is too big, if that’s the issue, as I suspect it was.)

Thanks Elizabeth – a few months ago we increased the max file upload size for EPUB imports on our hosted enterprise networks to 50 MB to address this issue.
