I’m having trouble validating an EPUB. I think this has something to do with the notes, but I’m not sure how to fix this.

Hi Heather – can you send us a link to the book in question or share the EPUB file so folks could take a closer look at the text itself?
Sure. Where should I send the link?
You can post it here in the forum or send me a DM through the forum software.
Hi @Heather_Dubnick took a look at the book and the export file. Typically this error is produced when you have a link (<a>
element that doesn’t have a properly formed href value). In this case several of your footnotes appear to be wrapped in anchor tags with internal references. Not sure why those are needed. I went ahead and removed them in chapter 9 and it cleared two of the error messages. To fix the rest, you’ll want to go into your HTML editor for the chapter in question, press Ctrl + F and search for href="#
. You can remove those anchor tags and their closing elements and then regenerate the export. Alternatively, you could just ignore the error messages as I don’t think they have much effect on the reading experience of the EPUB itself.
Thank you! I don’t think the EPUB will be uploadable to KDP, etc., until the errors are resolved. I’ll try what your are suggesting and if it doesn’t work I’ll just change the footnotes to in-text citations.
