Delete underline from hypertext (linked text)

When putting hypertext in table, the underline makes the content much harder to read.

Is there any way to delete the underline from hypertext, but still have the text linked to a website?

Hi @jandab – yes, this can be done with CSS (set text-decoration: none; for a elements inside of tables): Apply Custom Styles – Pressbooks User Guide. You should note that removing it may produce accessibility issues for some of your readers, since underlining is a very common way of indicating that the text in question is a link and color is not a sufficient method for distinguishing content for all users (see Avoid reliance on color | Digital Accessibility).

Do you need to somehow activate a possibility to make a custom style?
I don’t see that option.

Where are you creating this book and what theme are you using? Sending along the output of the diagnostics page would also be helpful https://[YOURBOOKURL]/wp-admin/options.php?page=pressbooks_diagnostics. Custom CSS has been available on Pressbooks and its main themes for a long time now, but perhaps you’re using a very old theme or on an open source network that hasn’t been updated for a while?

Hi @jandab it looks like your book is on an self-hosted open source Pressbooks network and is using a custom child theme of McLuhan. You’ll have to talk to whomever hosts your network about this, as it’s not something that we have any control over at Pressbooks. It could be a role permission issue (maybe you don’t have sufficient permissions to do this in your book), or it might be something they’ve disabled for this custom theme. I’d try to contact whomever invited you to create/access your book at ETH Zurich? Good luck!
