Best practices for displaying images in Pressbooks

Hello,

I am writing to ask what the best way is to display an image in Pressbooks. When a reader clicks on an image, Pressbooks offers two options:

  • opening the image in a new browser tab, which allows the reader to easily return to the book;

  • opening the image directly within the Pressbooks page, which requires the user to use the browser’s “back” function to return to the content.

In your practices, which option do you usually prefer? Do you have any standards or recommendations regarding this?

There’s a setting to view linked images in a Lightbox. This allows web readers to view images in a pop-up window on click. Readers can press Esc or click on the X icon to return back to the webpage.
