It’s increasingly common for authors to have ORCID persistent identifiers. ORCID is typically used for authors to record their research outputs and there is no reason why it couldn’t also record teaching material here too (such as books, book chapters, etc).
- Has this been discussed before in the Pressbooks Community?
- Would other people find it useful?
- Would Pressbooks consider adding an ORCID field to authors’ profiles and enabling ORCID to harvest records from Pressbooks (so that an author’s ORCID profile is automatically updated each time they publish an open book?
I’m interested in hearing others’ opinions. Thanks!
Hi Helen – we did a bunch of research on this in 2019 – mostly summarized in this ticket: [Research] Add ORCiD support for Pressbooks users · Issue #1500 · pressbooks/pressbooks · GitHub. I do (personally) have interest in an ORCiD integration, but really would love to hear more from users about how/whether they’d find this useful.
Thanks very much Steel, and it’s interesting to read the information in the ticket. Generally speaking, our academics are keen to get as much recognition for teaching activities / outputs as they are for research activities / outputs and ORCiD would help with this. I’m based in the UK and ORCiD is widely promoted here but I’m unsure whether that’s the case globally. I hope other Pressbooks users would find ORCiD integration worthwhile.
