I am preparing my first Pressbook. I am happy to offer my book open-access to readers who can use it, but do not want to give it to AI billionaires to chop into fragments of “content” for training. How are current authors dealing with this problem? What strategies does Pressbooks have, or what are in development?
I was considering making it “private,” behind a registration page. Any other ideas?
Definitely that’s a good starting point, AI and search engine crawlers can’t fetch your book data if content is set to private and only subscribed users login to read your content
Recent releases of Pressbooks include a setting that will allows you to add a robots.txt file to instruct the scraping tools used by most large language models to NOT scrape your book content. Details here: Settings – Pressbooks User Guide
