Since moving to WordPress 7, we’ve identified a visual bug in the Media Library grid view that’s affecting some users.
What you might see
In the grid view of the Media Library, some images may show the word “uploading…” underneath them instead of the file name or title — even though the image finished uploading and is fully usable in your book or site.
Why this happens
When an image is added to the Media Library, WordPress normally auto-populates the Title field using the file name. This bug shows up when that auto-population doesn’t happen — which some users have reported with file names that are very long, or when the Title field is empty for some reason (including a user removing it). When the Title field ends up empty, WordPress 7’s grid view falls back to showing “uploading…” instead of a blank title or the file name, which makes it look like the upload is stuck or failed.
This is a cosmetic/display issue only. The image has uploaded successfully, the file exists, and nothing about your media or book content is broken. The “uploading…” label is just a labeling glitch in the grid view — it doesn’t affect the image itself or how it displays anywhere else. It can be resolved by adding a Title to the affected image in the Media Library.
This isn’t something specific to Pressbooks — it’s a bug in WordPress core itself, introduced with the WordPress 7.0 release. It’s been reported by other WordPress users independently:
